YouTube: vertical live streams become part of the shorts feed

The competition between the biggest video platforms on the internet remains fierce and, once again, YouTube is inspired by what is already happening on TikTok to implement new features and now vertical live streams are now part of the Shorts feed.

If you use TikTok you know what it’s all about, after all, when browsing the platform’s feed it’s quite common to come across some live broadcasts between one video and another. And this has proven to be quite effective in increasing engagement with these live streams.

Furthermore, the natural integration of live broadcasts with the TikTok feed also increases creators’ interest in testing this tool to interact even better with their audience.

And now, YouTube does this too.

Vertical live streams on YouTube

While one of the leaders when it comes to medium and long-term horizontal videos, YouTube is still fighting for a greater market share among short-term vertical videos, TikTok’s specialty.

With the new feature, implemented for the entire YouTube audience this Wednesday (07), video creators can perform a vertical live stream, directly from their cell phone or using specialized software, which will automatically integrate with the Shorts feed, increasing the reach of the broadcast, since, for the viewer, with just one touch on the screen they will be able to access the broadcast and interact with the creator.

However, as announced by YouTube, to be able to carry out vertical live streams, the creator must meet some requirements:

  • Have more than 50 subscribers on the channel
  • Perform an account verification (on your cell phone or on the website youtube.com/verify)

Furthermore, the creator can also perform the same transmission vertically and horizontally, using software with plugins that enable the option. However, the broadcast will appear on the channel profile as two separate videos, one for each format.
